Tuesday 17th – Friday 20th July 2018
Dear Year 7 & 8 Parents & Carers,
Welcome to Enrichment Week for 2018. Once again the normal school timetable will be suspended for Years 7, 8 and 9 with students and staff spending the week participating in different activities not usually available during the normal school day. The week will be an opportunity to increase the breadth and depth of the education we offer, allow staff and students to interact in less formal situations, allow pupils from different friendships and year groups to interact together and to reflect on their experiences and achievements.
Attendance – We regard Enrichment Week as an important part of your son or daughter’s education, and expect normal attendance.
Payment – All activities are self-funding and depend on uptake to ensure that they are viable. We have ensured that there is a broad range, both in terms of interest and cost, to enable everyone to participate in a worthwhile activity. Because of the need to book venues, transport, and instructors in advance you will be asked to pay a non-returnable and a non-transferable deposit by Friday 2nd March, a second payment by Friday 20th April and a third and final payment by Friday 25th May. Please note that there are a number of free and relatively inexpensive activities so please select activities that you can afford. If you feel you qualify for financial support, please contact Mr A. Goodwin (firstname.lastname@example.org) before choosing your activities and returning your booking form.
Choosing an Activity – Please read carefully through all the Enrichment Week details on the school website homepage. Please click on the Enrichment Week information, which will direct you to the activity descriptions. Please then take account of any specific requirements that are mentioned. Students must choose three different activities in order of preference. Although we hope to place most students in their first or second choices, it is sometimes necessary to use third choices. As such, it is vital that students choose three activities that they are prepared to participate in. Year 9 students will get priority over other year groups as long as they complete and return their booking form by the deadline date of FRIDAY 19TH JANUARY. After this time, activities will be opened to other year groups.
Any student not choosing their activities, not making the relevant payment or not returning their consent form for their activity will be required to join a school based group taking part in a reduced timetable of normal subjects.
No changes – Once the place is confirmed your son/daughter will not be allowed to change to another activity unless there are exceptional circumstances. This does not include reasons such as your son/daughter is not with their normal friends, (as one of the reasons for the week is to get pupils from different friendships and year groups to interact together). Once an activity is allocated to your child you are liable to pay the full cost as the school has to make payments a long time in advance of the week. Pupils will not be permitted to participate in an activity unless full payment is made by the deadline dates above. Please bear this in mind when choosing an activity. Similarly, do not contact me if your son/daughter does not get their first or even their second choice. Certain activities have limited places, and/or are very popular, which means some pupils will be given their second or third choice. Therefore, ensure they choose three activities that they are prepared to do. It is vital that the booking form attached is filled in correctly and is returned to your son/daughter’s form tutor by FRIDAY 19TH JANUARY.
If there are any queries, please contact me at school by email at email@example.com or leave a message with Mrs Taylor at firstname.lastname@example.org or on 01626 366969 who is the Administrative Assistant for Enrichment Week.
